Mission and History of K-State's
Community Health Institute

Since 1995, an endowment from the Kansas Health Foundation and substantial commitments from Kansas State University Research and Extension have supported the Office of Community Health, which became the Community Health Institute in 2003.

CHI's Vision
Healthy youth, adults, and families through community-based health behavior
research

CHI's Mission
to understand and promote healthy behavior through

  • innovative and sustainable community partnerships and capacity building
  • behavioral science prevention and intervention research
  • and outcomes-based cooperative extension programming

The Community Health Institute (CHI), located in the College of Arts and Sciences at Kansas State University, creates collaborative partnerships within K-State and with external organizations as a means to further research in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and social behavior.
